Charleston Pines Apartment Homes Pet Policy

The "Pet Policy" for Charleston Pines Apartment Homes is as follows:

Cats, dogs, fish, birds, gerbils, and hamsters are allowed. No other type of pet is allowed. Dogs may not have any history of vicious behavior or be of any breed which has been determined as vicious. Birds, fish, hamsters and gerbils are to be kept in cages or aquariums. Any resident having a cat or a dog must have signed a Pet Addendum to their Lease and have paid all required amounts. Residents must also bring the pet to the office to be photographed prior to being brought on the property. Residents will be allowed two pets per apartment. Should the two pets be two dogs, the combined weight cannot be more than 100lbs at maturity. “Visiting” or “Guest” pets must comply with all restrictions of the Pet Policy, must be registered with the office prior to coming on the property and may stay for no more than 72 hours.

Dogs and cats must be up to date on all shots and vaccinations and written verification from a veterinarian or animal shelter must be provided. Dogs and cats must also be licensed as per local regulations. They must be kept under control at all times to include on a leash when outside. Dogs must be walked in designated dog walk areas and all waste must be cleaned up and properly disposed of by the owner. Residents who do not clean up after their dog will be fined $25.00 each for the first two offenses. Should a third offense occur the resident will be required to remove the pet from the premises. Failure to do so will be a violation of the lease and the resident will have 14 days to vacate the premises.

Any resident found to have a pet not allowed by the Pet Addendum will be given a “pet notice" requiring them to have the pet removed from the premises within 24 hours or the pet notice constitutes a 14 day notice to vacate the apartment for violation of the lease.

Any resident found to be feeding a stray animal, such as a cat or dog, will be given a letter stating that the feeding must stop immediately or they will be considered "keeping" the pet and they will then be treated the same as if they had brought the pet onto the property. This is done as a safety measure as we have been advised by the Animal Shelter that these stray animals can easily create a health hazard to those who come in contact with them.

The Pet Addendum specifies that for each pet an additional rent amount ($25.00) is to be paid each month and a pet deposit is required ($200.00 which is refundable). The Pet Addendum further states the size requirements which must be maintained. Exceptions to the restrictions of the Pet Addendum may only be made by one of the owners.
